Colin Wright, Deputy Conductor and Accompanist

Colin Wright has been accompanist to the East Riding County Choir since 1991 and for 9 years to the Hull Choral Union. He is also deputy conductor to the two choirs and participates regularly in concerts for both societies in Hull and the surrounding area. He is frequently engaged in performance with a number of other local organisations including the Melsa Consort, Hull Bach Choir and Hull Sinfonietta.

Originally from West Middlesex, Colin won an organ scholarship to St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, in 1964 where he studied organ and choral practice, later gaining the award of Fellowship to the Royal College of Organists.
He has been Assistant Organist at Beverley Minster since 1996 and often performs in the local area as organ soloist or accompanist to choral events.

Colin is a freelance musician and teacher and holds an appointment on the staff at Hull University as Lecturer in Music, teaching music theory and practice. His work since 1999 as an examiner for Trinity College, London, has included tours in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He recently retired from his role as External Verifier in Performing Arts and Training with the OCR and Edexcel examination boards.
