Colin Wright, Deputy Conductor and Accompanist

Colin Wright has been accompanist to the East Riding County Choir since 1991, and is also Deputy Conductor.   For thirteen years, until 2010, he was accompanist to the Hull Choral Union.   He has participated regularly in concerts for both societies in Hull and the surrounding area.   He is also frequently engaged in performance with a number of other local organisations, including the Melsa Consort and the Hull Bach Choir.

Originally from West Middlesex, Colin won an organ scholarship to St Catharine’s College, Cambridge in 1964, where he studied organ and choral practice, later gaining the award of Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists.
From 1996 until his retirement in 2010 Colin was Assistant Organist at Beverley Minster.   He often performs in the local area as organ soloist or accompanist to choral events.

Colin is a freelance musician, teacher and examiner.   Now a recently retired member of the Music staff at the University of Hull, he continues to teach part-time there alongside his PhD research into aural perception. His work, since 1999, as an examiner for TrinityGuildhall has included tours in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa as well as the UK and Europe.
