Membership
is open to all who fulfil the Choir’s audition requirements, unless numbers for a particular voice have been capped in the interests of the overall balance of the Choir.  Membership is renewed annually on payment of the subscription.
Auditions take place during the second and third rehearsals of each term.  Prospective new members will need to sing a short piece of music of their own choice, providing a copy for the accompanist as well as for themselves, and to do some simple sight-reading.
Subscriptions - a standard rate and a reduced rate for concessions - are set at the AGM; membership is free for students.  Subscriptions should be paid in full to the Membership Secretary by the fourth rehearsal of the Autumn Term.  All members who pay Income Tax are encouraged to complete Gift Aid declarations, available from the Membership Secretary.  New members joining in the Spring Term will pay half the annual rate.
Attendance at rehearsals is a condition for taking part in the Choir’s concerts.  The Registrar maintains a record of attendance, and members should ensure that their numbers are recorded at each rehearsal attended.  (Persistent leaving at 'half-time' may result in an absence being recorded.)  Anyone missing three or more rehearsals in a term will be eligible to perform only with the permission of the Committee; the Registrar should be approached in the first instance.
Rehearsals generally take place at 7.30 pm on Mondays at The Hexagon Music Centre, Coltman Avenue, Beverley, HU17 9LP  map.  (Doors open from 7.00 pm).    Rehearsal schedules are circulated at the start of each season and can be viewed above.
Scores for all works performed, other than Messiah and Carols for Choirs (OUP), may be hired from the Librarian.  Rehearsal CDs (for each voice) may also be available for hire.  Scores, rehearsal CDs and performance CDs are available for purchase, by post or online, from Choraline  (tel:  0845 304 5070).    Free online learning is available at Cyberbass .  For performances, scores should be inserted into black County Choir folders, available from the Librarian.  These are the property of the Choir and must be returned to the Librarian when membership ceases.
Concert Dress comprises a smart white long-sleeved top and a smart long black skirt or trousers for women and a dark lounge suit, white shirt and County Choir tie (available for purchase from the Librarian) for men.
Seating Plans for the two main concerts will be on display a week before each performance.  Seating requests should be made to the Registrar at least a week previously.  All efforts will be made to accommodate preferences, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Urgent information (e.g. the cancellation of rehearsals because of bad weather) will be posted on this site.
